Its amazing how much knowledge a person can gain in a lifetime. It doesn’t seem to manner what age you are, or what school you go to, or even what job you have. Everyone has something profound that they can share with others. Everyone has something to offer.

Over the weekend I asked everyone I could on twitter what the most profound thing they have ever been told is. I got answers back from moms, martial-artists, a yogi, a zen master, a financial adviser, personal coaches, business men, writers, and some just plain friendly people. They all had something great to say, and they all gave me something to think about.

I thought I’d share some of these with you.

Everyone who is listed here responded back with something I could use. I had to set a cut off date, so not everyone who answered is here, and I lost a couple of the answers when I tried to save them under direct messages. So thanks for sending something I could use. I appreciate that.

Justin, This is a great idea for a post, and the results are amazing. For me a very profound insignt comes from Mark Twain, who said “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you in trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”

To me that means that much of what we know about growing older “just ain’t so.” In fact, the more I learn from my reading and from my own experience, the more I question the depressing myths that many people “know for sure.”

“It doesn’t have to be like this for you”. Spoken to me when I was young by an adult outside of my family of origin. This sentence rocked my world and changed the trajectory of my path. I cannot remember then name of the woman who spoke it but that sentence rings in my head as if it was spoken yesterday. And I thank the powers of purposeful good almost daily for putting her in my life, however briefly.

I don’t know about that one. Rich or poor we all have a burden to bare, religious or atheist, we all have a conscience.

“The world is wide, and I will not waste my life in friction when it cold be turned into momentum.” ~Frances E. Willard.

I love this quote because I’m an engineer(ing student), and it puts a great idea into somewhat technical terms that speak to me with more depth than many simple aphorisms ever have.
