Its amazing how much knowledge a person can gain in a lifetime. It doesn’t seem to manner what age you are, or what school you go to, or even what job you have. Everyone has something profound that they can share with others. Everyone has something to offer.

Over the weekend I asked everyone I could on twitter what the most profound thing they have ever been told is. I got answers back from moms, martial-artists, a yogi, a zen master, a financial adviser, personal coaches, business men, writers, and some just plain friendly people. They all had something great to say, and they all gave me something to think about.

I thought I’d share some of these with you. (more…)

The ADD Blogger’s Guide to Focus

2511865067_32eabeefb2Post by Justin Dixon follow me on Twitter Photo courtesy of orangeacid

When I was in second grade I was tested for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). My parents were told that if they did not put me on Ritalin, a drug related to morphine, that they would have to pull me out of school. Thankfully, my parents chose the latter. Up until seventh grade I taught myself, and my parents would check my work. I got through the rest of school with better than average grades. When I got to the workforce however I realized that even at a job that I enjoyed, I would be easily distracted. It was a pain for me to alphabetize books with no mistakes, and if something shiny was thrown by… I was gone. I knew I had to do something, but I had committed to work through my ADD rather than medicate it. I started immediately working on ways to increase my focus. Today if I am really focused on something than no matter what happens around me I will stay focused.

Here are the things that have helped this ADD blogger. (more…)

The fact is that its not those items that you  want. What you really want is the difficulty needed to get them. In fact if you were just handed any of those things they would lose most, if not all of their value. (more…)

“Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits; habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny.”-Tryon Edwards

We do not perceive everything we see. Our eyes and sub-conscious record everything, but it can not all register. Our minds are only able to translate so much information, and the filter through which we process that information is our mind, and it has been proven that what we think in our minds effects very strongly what we will notice.

So the mind is an incredible force, and by determining what you see, your thoughts determine where you go in life. Here are 8 common mindsets that you should look out for.

Joseph Campbell Quotes

I was introduced to this writer through a list of people who taught themselves. He was told that the degree he wanted to take for his masters was to broad, so he moved to a lodge a little bit away from the city, and read for nine hours a day for five years. He was later awarded the doctorate that he had been denied thus allowing him to become a full-time professor, and his book The Hero with A Thousand Faces is still required reading for many schools.

Here is what a man who chose to decide for himself what he should learn and became succesful had to say.
