The 2 Sides of Perfectionism and How to Use Them

This Post by Justin Dixon

Our greatest weaknesses are often a part of our greatest strengths. In every strength we must learn how to counter the corresponding weakness or it will become a powerful roadblock.

Perfectionism is no different and there are strengths and weaknesses to be pulled from it as well. One definition of perfectionism states that it is a philosophy and a standard of releasing no less than perfection. I’m a big fan of high standards, but than comes the draw back. Perfectionism is also defined as a propensity for being displeased with anything that is not perfect or does not meet extremely high standards.

So how can we use the strengths from this without being tripped up by it? (more…)

How to Find Your Hidden Strengths

This is a guest post by the ever awesome and ever sweet Dani of PositivelyPresent.com

The other day I was sitting in a meeting taking notes when someone brought up the topic of hidden strengths. It wasn’t mentioned at all in the context of personal development, but it really got me to thinking: what hidden strengths do we all possess? I’ve noticed that, when put in unexpected situations, strengths I never knew I had rise to the surface and show themselves. There are many things within me that I am not always aware of, and I’m sure this is true for you as well. Just think about a difficult situation you were in. Did you find that you were stronger than you realized? Think about a time you were given an unexpected task. Did you perform better than you might have expected? More often than not we surprise ourselves with what we are capable of. (more…)

3 Mantras to Get You Through Hard Times

This Post by Justin Dixon

At some point in life we all face hard times. Things go wrong and its hard to know what to do or where to go. Lately I’ve been going through such times. I have been out of work since January and I really don’t know what my next move is going to be, but no matter how hard times have gotten giving up does not help anyone. Knowing this I’ve had to find a way to keep my focus positive, and myself moving forward. What I’ve come up with are a few simple thoughts that have been making all the difference for me, and hopefully can help make a difference for you as well.

One step at a time.

Our minds tend to rush ahead to everything that could go wrong. We like to have a map of what to expect next. This is normal in our culture, but it doesn’t really help. Today is what exists. Now is the moment you have, and all of the best and worst guesses of what life will do are just that, guesses. (more…)

Few companies around the world have the same wide reach as Disney, and few companies have inspired as many people even half as much as the company founded by Walt Disney. This is a man who had the audacity to dream of something never done before and than still had the nerve on top of that to follow through with it. Any man like that is a man worth listening to. Here is Walt Disney had to say. (more…)

A Full Body Workout in 15 Minutes a Day

This Post by Justin Dixon Photo Courtesy of Filtran

The most important factors for accomplishing anything are perseverance, discipline and time. Sometimes though that last part seems just out of reach. We know we should work out, and we know there are a lot of things we should do, but finding the  time and energy can be such a pain. So here is a full body workout that a martial arts instructor taught me. The actual workout takes about 10 minutes, but it skips out on the benefits of 5 minutes of stretching a day. I’m going to break this down into separate parts, and even give tips to make this step to living a healthier lifestyle easier for you. (more…)

The 4 Great Challenges of Our Modern Lives

This Post by Justin Dixon Photo Courtesy of Tiago Ribeiro

This modern age is really amazing. We are able to learn more, teach faster, move faster, and do more in less time with less effort than ever before. Yet at the same time we are more stressed, less connected, and many of us are on information overload. I love this modern world, but at the same time all this technology, information, and colliding cultures does bring with it four great challenges: our beliefs, our boundaries, reflection, and action. We must as individuals and as a group learn to rise up to these challenges; not only must we rise up to these challenges for our own lives, but for the world we are making. (more…)
